It is now well documented in scientific literature, that our polluted and stress-filled environment has dramatically increased the number of free radicals, or unstable atoms, in our bodies. These excessive free radicals and the damage they cause to our intracellular RNA and DNA has been clearly linked to many chronic degenerative diseases like cancer, heart disease, strokes, Alzheimer's and many others as well as the acceleration of the aging process.
Simply speaking, a healthy cell becomes a free radical when it looses its electron to any of the numerous attacks that take place in the body millions of times each day. An antioxidant contributes, one electron, per molecule, to the free radical to neutralize it or render it harmless. However once the antioxidant donates its ion it in itself becomes a free radical, this is known as science as an ion cascade.
